Winter is here. The days are shorter, the number of cyclists on the road is fewer and the frequency of bike-related events has decreased. In keeping with winter hibernation, Sauce Weekly has become Sauce Bi-Weekly. But don’t worry too much! This still means 2 great “Sauce Weeklies” a month! Hot diggity dog!!!

1. SoDa Bikes Advocacy Meeting: Tuesday Dec 7, 7pm

Starting on Wednesday December 1, we’ll have a new Mayor. We’ll also have a bunch of new Councillors! There is no better time than the present to join us in our advocacy efforts to make Toronto a better place to live, work and play — particularly by bike! 2. Sauce Volunteer Meeting: Wednesday Dec 8, 7pm

Every month, on the second Wednesday, we have a Volunteer Meeting. They’re awesome. We talk about what we’ve accomplished since our last meeting, share stories about the shop, and make important decisions about our operational future. And we usually go to a pub close by for a few post-meeting drinks. If that doesn’t sound like an amazing night, I don’t know what is. All community members are welcome to our meetings and have the right to speak to any agenda item. So come on over to ‘Sauce for our meeting:

3. Bike Union Member Appreciation Night at MEC: Wednesday Dec 8, 7-9pm

Are you a Bike Union Member? If so, you can get up to 10% off all merchandise, and 5% off bikes and boats,  at Mountain Equipment Co-Op’s Toronto store on Wednesday, December 8, from 7-9pm! Yup! It’s the Bike Union’s ‘thank you’ to members: Membership Appreciation Night! Pretty great, right???

4. Volunteer Opportunities with the Toronto Coalition for Active Transportation: Deadline Dec 6

The Toronto Coalition for Active Transportation (TCAT) will be hosting another amazing Complete Streets Forum on April 28-29, 2011 and they need volunteers! There are a few opportunities: Communications Coordinator, Graphic Designer and Photographer, Website and IT Support and Sponsor Liaison.

This is an excellent opportunity to develop practical experience and skills, work with leaders in the active transportation field, and gain experience in policy conference organizing! 5. Google Bike There Directions Come to Canada!!!

A few days ago, Google announced that their Bike There directions would be coming to 9 Canadian cities: Toronto, Waterloo, Ottawa, Gatineau, Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Vancouver and Kelowna. The feature should be live any day now… Thanks Google!!!
