3. Call for Volunteers: Harmony Co-Op Bike Clinic, Sat April 9

All for Bikes, Bikes for All! Spring Bike Clinic

Spring arrives when BikeSauce and Bicycle Commons roll down the Esplanade and into Harmony Court to lead the third annual Free Spring Bike Clinic. Together with It’s Chez Nous!, My First Wheels, MEC, Simplicity Event Planning, ThinkFirst, and other community partners, this year’s event promises to make an even larger impact on the youth and families of Toronto’s Esplanade. We’re calling out Wrenches and volunteers of all skill levels to contribute some time and love to this neighbourhood’s bikes. Great food, mechanical challenges, and all the warm, grateful smiles you can handle.

Saturday, April 9

9:30am – 4:00pm

150 Longboat Avenue, Toronto, ON

(Esplanade and Parliament – Across from the Distillery District)

Bike Clinic volunteers will receive new Bicycle Commons gear and great cycling gifts in appreciation. A few hours or the whole day will make a real difference.

Please confirm your participation as soon as possible at:

4. HUGE NEWS! Sauce has a new home!

This is some of the biggest news to hit Sauce all year! We’re packing  up our frames, our truing stand, our nuts and bolts and heading up the street to set up camp at 235 Broadview.

Just south of Dundas, this is a store-front on Broadview just a few minutes from our current location.

Details are still to be established, but the rough idea is that we can operate out of both locations to give the community time to find the new space and for us to move all our gear little by little. This should guarantee us a smooth transition.

More details will be shared as soon as we know! If you want to help us out with this epic move, read Sauce Weekly item #5 below.

5. Call for Volunteers: Help Build Sauce’s New Home and Haul Our Stuff

You read it above in #4. We’re moving.

This means we need as much help as possible to prepare the new space, load up our gear and stock, and move ship. We’ll also need help spreading the word.

If you’re interested in helping prep the new space (cleaning, organizing, DIY building), helping haul massive bike trailers piled high with bike parts, designing new flyers or signs for our new location, or helping us get the word out, email info@bikesauce.org.

6. Bike Month is Back!

A few weeks ago, the cycling community was told that Toronto’s Bike Month was going to be scaled down to the traditional Bike to Work Day.

We were all very upset. We made our discontent be known. We started to join together to start a community-led Bike Month that promised to be bigger and better than any other Bike Month Toronto has ever seen.

Our voices were heard! In a recent meeting, Sean Wheldrake (Project Lead, Cycling Infrastructure and Programs Unit, City of Toronto) announced that Bike Month was back on!

Bike Month will be kicked off by Bike to Work Day on May 30. An entire month’s full of awesome community events will follow. More info and a detailed program/calendar to come in the near future.
