1. Niagara Bike Tour Planning Meeting: Tuesday September 7, 7pm

Like bikes? Wine? Being a tourist? Then join us for our weekend touring trip to the Niagara Wine Region!
We’re planning on heading out the weekend of September 11-12 (and maybe even Friday the 10th). Most details are still to be determined but we’re looking at taking the GO Train to Burlington and biking about 50-70kms a day, with camping along the way.
The planning meeting will help us figure out the details and make sure we’re all on the same page. A few Sauciers will even show everyone a couple pictures of previous touring trips and share fun touring stories to help us get mentally prepared for our epic adventure!

3. Advocacy Update: Downtown Cycling Petition and TTC Recommendations
Progress is coming along steadily with Sauce’s advocacy efforts.
A few weeks ago, BikeSauce submitted our signed sheets of the Downtown Cycling Petition, along with a letter of support. We’re happy to report that the proposal was referred by the Public Works and Infrastructure Committee to City Staff on August 18. This means that Staff will take a look at the requests of bike infrastructure and report back to PWIC in January 2011. First hurdle has been passed!!! Thanks to all those who signed the petition at ‘Sauce!
BikeSauce also wrote a letter to Councillor Paula Fletcher, making recommendations on how to increase multi-modal transportation by increasing cycling infrastructure at TTC stations. This included building secure, covered bike parking at 3 East End stations that will be undergoing renovations in the very near future (Donlands, Greenwood and Woodbine). It also included replacing the “Bikes Prohibited” signs with “Bike Permitted” signs to indicate when cyclists can and cannot bring their bikes onboard the subway. Councillor Fletcher not only endorsed these recommendations, but asked Councillor Bussin to move them as motions at a Commissioner’s Meeting. Details of the out come of this will be sent out shortly.

If any of these projects sound like something you’d like to get involved in, email michelle.stamour@gmail.com. We’re always looking for more help!
